eSpace in the Heart of Europe for Research Event
3
Luxembourg is rarely heard of in the news, but just last week it made itself worthy of the headlines. The quaint, yet gorgeous, country sandwiched between France, Germany and Belgium, was the chosen spot by the European Commission to host a networking event as part of the FP7 proposal call 5.
The call is chiefly concerned with seeking research into solutions to deal with the ‘real-time’ processing of enormous datasets (terabyte and petabyte ranges were commonly-used terms), and hence the title given to the call: Intelligent Information Management. In ten years time it is anticipated that the yield of data be far ahead of our current ability to process it in a timely fashion and hence the European Union put forth a budget of 70 MEuro to tackle such inevitable problems.
eSpace, under the sponsorship of ITIDA, was at the forefront of the conference to display and offer its development and research capabilities to any of the budding consortia. During a brief presentation, eSpace showcased its current ongoing research efforts, specifically in the domain of text and semantic analysis. Being the only entity from outside the EU, eSpace certainly did catch the attention of many of the attendees and this may very well be a positive turn in eSpace’s direction towards more active research and collaboration with academia.
